HTTP/3 does not have a direct impact on SEO regardless of its faster performance, Google states.
Google Search Advocate John Mueller exposes a theory that the faster speed of HTTP/3 can directly impact
a site’s SEO. This topic is dealt with during the November 2022 edition of Google’s SEO office-hours Q&A session. Signed up with by the Google Search Relations group, Muller addresses the following concern:
Could the use of HTTP/3 enhance SEO due to the fact that it improves performance?
HTTP/3 uses efficiency benefits over HTTP/2 and HTTP/3. Nevertheless, the performance gains are not likely to make a difference relating to SEO.
Mueller On The SEO Effect Of HTTP/3
Mueller starts his response by mentioning Google doesn’t utilize HTTP/3 as a ranking aspect or in web crawling:
“Google doesn’t utilize HTTP/3 as a factor in ranking at the moment. As far as I understand, we do not use it in crawling either.”
Google mostly uses HTTP/1 for web crawling. Googlebot supports HTTP/2 however just utilizes it when there’s a clear advantage over HTTP/1.
Assistance for HTTP/3 is likely a long way off. Websites that pick to adopt it early will not see a direct improvement in search rankings, Mueller describes:
“In terms of performance, I presume the gains users see from utilizing HTTP/3 would not be enough to significantly impact the core web vitals, which are the metrics that we utilize in the page experience ranking aspect. While making a faster server is always an excellent idea, I doubt you ‘d see a direct connection with SEO only from utilizing HTTP/3. Similar to how you ‘d be tough pressed to discovering a direct connection to utilizing a much faster kind of RAM in your servers.”
Mueller provided a comparable reaction when inquired about HTTP/3 in December 2021.
However, he recommended HTTP/3 could “possibly indirectly” affect core web vitals.
I don’t think we crawl with http/3 but that doesn’t suggest you won’t see positive effects for users (and with that, possibly indirectly core web vitals too).

Mueller sounds more confident now in stating that there’s no effect.
